A study on Effects of Samul-tang Composition on Anemia and Starvation

Abstract
|
|
|
In order to investigate interactive effects of Samul-tang composition and the principle of prescription, I examined the effects of Samul-tang and combination of three components of Samul-tang, those were anti-anemia effect for mouse which have hemolytic anemia induced by phenylhydrazine and recovering effect for physical change of starved mouse.
The results were summerized as follows :
1. It was acknowledged that Samul-tang and its composition increased RBC count and hematocrit significantly in mouse which have hemolytic anemia.
2. Among Samul-tang composition Angelicae gigantis Radix and Cnidii Rhizomes solution and among the combination group Rehmanniae Radix and Cnidii Rhizoma combinationn and Samul-tang solution showed significant effects for hemoglobin and weight of spleen in mouse which have hemolytic anemia. Thus it was acknowledged that Rehmanniae Radix and Cnidii Rhizorna combination had effect to improve hemoglobin and weight of spleen.
3. About the examination for weight loss after starvation, Samul-tang solution and the combination included Paeoniae Radix Alba and Rehmanniae Radix increased weight significantly. Thus among Samul-tang composition Paeoniae Radix Alba and Rehmanniae Radix combination is related to improving effect for weight loss.
4. About the examination for hypothermia after starvation, Angelicae gigantis Radix solution, Rehmanniae Radix solution, Samul-tang solution and Paeoniae Radix Alba combination raised the body temperature significantly.
5. About the examination for RBC count after starvation, Paeoniae Radix Alba solution, Samul-tang solution, and the combination included Paeoniae Radix Alba and Rehmanniae Radix raised RBC count significantly. Thus it was acknowledged Paeoniae Radix Alba and Rehmanniae Radix combination showed this effect.
6. About the examination for hematocrit and hemoglobin, Paeoniae Radix Alba solution, Cnidii Rhizoma solution, Samul-tang solution and the combination included Rehmanniae Radix and Cnidii Rhizoma raised those value significantly.
7. About the examination for total protein after starvation, Paeoniae Radix Alba solution, Cnidii Rhizoma solution, Samul-tang solution and each combination solution raised that value significantly.
8. About the examination for serum GOT activity after starvation, every test solution decreased that activity significantly, for GPT activity Samul-tang solution, Paeoniae Radix Alba solution and Paeoniae Radix Alba+Rehmanniae Radix+Cnidii Rhizoma combination decreased that activity significantly.
9. About the examination for serum cortisol value after starvation, Sarnul-tang solution, Paeoniae Radix Alba solution and Rehmanniae Radix solution raised that value significantly.
10. About the examination for serum testosterone value after starvation Angelicrre gigantis Radix solution, Paeoniae Radix Alba solution, Cnidii Rhizoma solution and the combination included Paeoniae Radix Alba and Rehmanniae Radix raised that value significantly. Thus it was acknowledged Paeoniae Radix Alba and Relunanniae Radix combination have that effect.
From above these results it was acknowledged that Samul-tang has the effects that anti-anemic effect for the mouse which have hemolytic anemia induced by phenylhydrazine and improving effect for physical change induced by starvation and these effects depend upon its combination of Samul-tang composition. Especially it was acknowleged, though there are the slight difference according to combination, that Paeoniae Radix Alba combination had improving effect for physical change after starvation. So it is thought that Paeoniae Radix Alba is main material for this kind of disease and continuous study is needed.
